Are you a social service provider looking to refer a client to FamilyAid Boston? Below are the eligibility requirements for each of our programs.

A mother and father watching their son sleeping.Each program at FamilyAid Boston has eligibility requirements that prospective clients must meet. If we are unable to help an individual or family who is in crisis, we will do our best to refer them to a local agency better suited to their needs.

Homelessness Prevention
Applicants for homelessness prevention services must live in the City of Boston, have children under the age of 18 and be at risk of losing their housing. Certain income guidelines apply. To learn more about this program, please call our prevention hotline at 617-542-7286 ext. 238.

Emergency Shelter
To qualify for our emergency shelter program, families must be homeless, from Boston, and have children under the age of 18. Families also must be over-income or otherwise ineligible for state-funded Emergency Assistance (EA). To access services during normal business hours, call 617-542-7286 X229. On nights, weekends, or at any other time that our offices are closed, families can access the program through the Mayor’s Hotline at 617-635-4500.

Community Based Family Shelter
To qualify for Community Based Family Shelter, a family must be referred by the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). Please call DHCD at 617-573-1100 if you have questions about eligibility requirements.

Rapid Re-Housing
To be part of the Housing Access Collaborative, families must be homeless, from Boston, and have children under the age of 18. Referrals to this program should be directed to Mikayla Francois, Program Manager at 617-542-7286 ext. 234 or

Our stabilization services are only available to families exiting FamilyAid Boston's shelter programs.

Employment Services
Families must be enrolled in one of FamilyAid Boston's homelessness prevention, housing or shelter programs to access our employment services.
