Subject: Positive update from a former client

Hi everyone- I just got a nice email from a former client, a single mother of a young daughter. She has kept in touch throughout the years, and just sent me a long update on where she is now, and a very thoughtful note. She has two more semesters to go until she completes her bachelor’s degree, and she plans to go right into a master’s program after that, with the intention of going on to medical school. When she came to FamilyAid Boston, she did not have her GED and had student loans in default, so she has come a long way with her education as a result of her drive and motivation. She was also offered a new job with a significant salary increase. She was able to save up money to purchase a car, and she and her fiancé are now saving money to purchase a home together. This is the note she wrote at the end:

I wanted to share some of these major accomplishments with you and your team at FamilyAid Boston since you played a major role in my success story. You all have taught me so many things including that I should never give up and that saving has its rewards. FamilyAid Boston is fundamental part of the City of Boston because you all rebuild the community by preparing men and women like myself for what the world has to offer an by teaching us that we have to be our own biggest believers and change our mindsets so that we don’t make the same mistake twice (becoming homeless). FamilyAid Boston changed the work environment I was used to by getting me into a different position and preparing me for the workforce. I can honestly say that FamilyAid Boston has played a major role in who I am today. As I go through life, I will always remember the lessons that FamilyAid Boston has taught and all the ways you all have changed my life.

I just wanted to share this with all of you as a reminder that, even when our work is hard, we are really making a difference in people’s lives.

Best,
Jenny
