Seamans will officially join FamilyAid Boston on July 16, replacing Richard E. Ring, who is retiring after a nearly 50 year career in homeless services. Read more.

Our longtime partner CORT generously donated all the furnishings in the new unit, which will be home to a mother and her three children who are moving out of shelter. BNY Mellon/Alice P. Chase Trust Awards Grant for Emergency Shelter

FamilyAid Boston is deeply grateful for the $25,000 grant we received from BNY Mellon’s charitable giving program through the generosity of the Alice P. Chase Trust. This grant funds our Emergency Shelter program at a critical time, when the program is seeing record demand and providing shelter for nearly twice as many families on a nightly basis as it did this time last year.

WilmerHale Donates Starter Kits for Families Moving From Shelter Into Housing

July 22, 2014

Generous volunteers from WilmerHale donated sheets, towels, dishes, pots and pans, and other household necessities to put together "starter kits" for families moving from shelter into permanent housing. After collecting items for several weeks, volunteers worked in shifts through lunchtime to pack the donations into storage bins along with hand crocheted afghans and encouraging notes to families. Marblehead Kindergartners Save Pennies for FamilyAid Boston Kids

July 17, 2014
This spring, kindergarten students from the Bell School in Marblehead collected donations -- mostly pennies, dimes, and quarters -- to buy presents for the children living in FamilyAid Boston's newest Community Based Family Shelter. After saving for months, the Bell students were able to buy two big, bright beanbag chairs for the children to use in their communal playroom, which were delivered to the shelter last week, much to the delight of the young residents. Tech Goes Home Graduates Celebrate at Faneuil Hall

June 7, 2014

Congratulations to our second class of Tech Goes Home students who participated in a ceremony for graduates from all nonprofit partner agencies at Faneuil Hall on June 7.

FamilyAid Boston partnered with Tech Goes Home to offer an 8 week class, led by a FamilyAid Boston case manager who taught students how to use computers and the Internet for important life skills like budgeting, job search, and research.

Upon completion of the program, each student received a Netbook computer and resources to access free or reduced price home internet.

Community Advisory Board Gets Out the Vote!

June 7, 2014.

On June 7, clients and former clients from our Community Advisory Board, together with FamilyAid Boston staff, ran a voter registration and information table in Dorchester's Codman Square.

Dozens of people registered to vote and signed petitions to raise the minimum wage and support housing and homelessness-related amendments to the state budget. The voter registration and advocacy initiative, in partnership with Homes for Families, was made possible by a MassVOTE grant.

FamilyAid Boston Hosts Travelers Aid International Conference

May 23, 2014.
FamilyAid Boston was proud to host the annual Travelers Aid International Conference in Boston from May 21-23. Attendees from agencies across the United States and Canada gathered to share resources and ideas on how best to serve their clients. One of the highlights of the conference was a keynote speech by Boston Marathon Race Director Dave McGillivray, who gave an inspiring speech about setting lofty goals and achieving them.

Travelers Aid International is an umbrella group of organizations. Many maintain the original Travelers Aid name and mission, while many others, like FamilyAid Boston, have evolved to provide a different set of services while still working toward the goal of helping the most vulnerable people in our communities.

FamilyAid Boston's Director of Development, Brendon Stellman, caught a pass from former NFL quarterback Doug Flutie at the Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation's 10th Annual Community Quarterback celebration on May 7. FamilyAid Boston was one of 66 nonprofits in attendance and received a $10,000 grant from the foundation.

Marathon Team Finishes Strong

Boston Legislative Breakfast

March 28, 2014
FamilyAid Boston participated in the Boston Legislative Breakfast at Project Hope in partnership with Homes for Families. U.S. Representative Michael Capuano and State Senator Sonia Chang-Diaz both addressed the crowd of homeless or formerly homeless parents, service providers, and advocates about their support of legislation to help homeless families.

FamilyAid Boston also ran a voter registration table at the event as part of a partnership with Homes for Families and MassVOTE aimed at engaging low-income, homeless, and formerly homeless voters.
