Bilingual Housing Placement Specialist

Summary of the Position

The Housing Placement Specialist works as part of a team of the Community Based Shelter program. The Specialist works with families to quickly identify housing options, develop a housing plan, and to coordinate a move from shelter to safe, affordable, permanent housing as quickly as possible.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Conducts initial assessment of participant family for the purpose of determining housing needs, housing search capabilities, as well as potential barriers to future housing. 
2. Collaborates with team to develop, monitor, and modify individualized housing placement plan for each client.
3. Educates and assists clients in the housing placement process.
4. Assists the client with housing applications, identification and remediation of barriers, and mobilization of resources.
5. Monitors and supervises compliance and progress of effort and outcome.  
6. Accompanies clients to housing interviews and appointments. 
7. Conducts research regarding available and expected housing possibilities. 
8. Connects with area landlords, housing authorities, and management companies to develop housing resources for client families.
9. Provides written progress reports in a timely manner, as required by FamilyAid Boston and the contracting agency, the Department of Housing and Community Development.  
10. Provides approximately 4 hours weekly of CoShelter front desk coverage.
11. Additional responsibilities as directed by Housing Program Manager   


  • Previous human service experience and a strong interest in working with homeless families.
  • Knowledge of affordable housing options in the greater-Boston area and experience in locating housing for very low income families.
  • Ability to work with families/individuals from diverse social, cultural and ethnic backgrounds in a culturally sensitive, team oriented approach.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record. 
  • Ability to be mobile in an urban environment.

This position is based at 727 Atlantic Ave, Boston MA but is in the neighborhoods of Boston daily.
